Sunbury, PA (August 9, 2024) – A fatal head-on collision on Friday morning in Sunbury has resulted in the death of a 77-year-old Shamokin Dam man and left two others injured. The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Bainbridge St and Front St. Northumberland County Coroner Jim Kelley confirmed that Sherman Milton was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:35 a.m.
According to Police Chief Travis Bremigen, Milton was involved in a head-on collision that led to severe injuries and, ultimately, his death. Emergency responders arrived promptly, with ambulances transporting the injured individuals to nearby hospitals. The roadways were closed for an extended period to facilitate the emergency response and vehicle extrication by local fire crews.
Chief Bremigen is urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who has video surveillance footage from the area to come forward. The Sunbury Police Department is also reviewing city camera footage to gather additional information. The incident remains under investigation.
Northumberland County District Attorney Mike O’Donnell was on-site, and an autopsy for Sherman Milton is scheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown. Front St was reopened to traffic in the afternoon after being closed for several hours.
We offer our condolences to the family of Sherman Milton.
