
Tioga Co, PA (April 29, 2024) – A tragic crash occurred on Tuesday afternoon, April 29, in Tioga County, claiming the lives of two individuals, including a 9-year-old child, and leaving two others critically injured. The incident, reported by Pennsylvania State Police, took place around 2:20 p.m. on Route 6 near Bailey Road in Sullivan Township.
According to authorities, a Towanda Area School District vehicle with four people inside was traveling east on Route 6 when, for an unknown reason, the driver crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a commercial vehicle. The crash resulted in the death of the driver of the school vehicle, 66-year-old Ronald Wickwire, and a 9-year-old male passenger. The other two children in the vehicle, a 12-year-old male and a 6-year-old male, were airlifted to the hospital for emergency treatment.
First responders, including ambulances and fire crews, were quick to arrive on the scene. Emergency personnel worked to extract the vehicles from the roadway and clear the wreckage, while the injured were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals. Traffic was temporarily halted while the scene was cleared, and the incident was fully under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police. The condition of the driver of the commercial vehicle remains unknown at this time.
