Roaring Brook Township, PA (June 22, 2024) – According to the latest reports provided by authorities, one man is dead, and another man has been arrested after a crash that occurred on I-380 early Friday morning.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. on the offramp from I-380 onto I-84 eastbound when a tractor-trailer collided with a Chevy Malibu. PSP Dunmore confirmed that 60-year-old Edward Loftus from Olyphant died as a result of the crash. A 54-year-old man from Sarasota, Florida, who was driving the tractor-trailer, was arrested at the scene, according to PSP. State police say the truck driver made an unsafe lane change from the far right lane to the far left exit of the highway and hit the victim’s car while he was traveling in the center lane.
The driver has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person and other summary offenses. However, area officials continue to investigate the incident in the interim.
We extend our deepest condolences to Edward Loftus’s family.
Semi-Truck Accidents in Pennsylvania
An accident involving a large commercial vehicle, like a semi-truck, significantly differs from a typical auto accident. Accidents involving commercial trucks frequently induce severe injuries that frequently lead to enduring disabilities or fatalities. Motorcycles and passenger vehicles cannot safeguard themselves from the sheer bulk and weight of a large truck. Consequently, truck accident victims frequently endure severe emotional, physical, and financial repercussions. A truck accident attorney can assist in guaranteeing that the victims receive a justifiable settlement in the form of compensation for property damage, medical expenses, and/or wage loss.
Like many other states, Pennsylvania has a vast network of highways and interstates, contributing to its higher truck traffic and making these accidents a serious concern. Furthermore, the ample size and weight of semi-trucks or tractor-trailers mean disastrous consequences in a collision.
For all of the above reasons, you need to know your legal rights if you or a loved one was hurt in a truck accident in Pennsylvania. You have to deal with more than just your regular vehicle insurance company while seeking compensation for injuries you suffered in a truck collision. For instance, a trucking contractor’s primary goals are to minimize responsibility for accidents involving their drivers and maximize profits.
