Pittsburgh, PA (July 2, 2024) – A man was flown to a Pittsburgh trauma center after a crash that shut down I-79 for several hours on Tuesday evening, July 2.
The accident happened just before 8:00 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-79 in Muddy Creek Township. State police did not reveal any identities but said the driver of a vehicle in the left lane was looking to merge right in order to get off at the Portersville exit, as there was another vehicle traveling in the right lane. The second car swerved in order to avoid hitting the first car, which caused it to lose control. One man was airlifted by a medical helicopter to UPMC Presby. Meanwhile, I-79 remained shut down until midnight as crews worked to clear the scene, but no further details were released.
Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery at this time.
