Pittsburgh Fatal Bike Accidents

The surge in fatal bike accidents has become a significant concern in recent years. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reported over 900 bicyclist fatalities in the U.S. in 2022, reflecting a troubling increase from previous years.

Urban areas like Pittsburgh have experienced a rise in these incidents, largely due to increased traffic volumes and inadequate bike infrastructure. These statistics highlight an urgent need for enhanced safety measures and heightened awareness among both drivers and cyclists.

When a bicyclist is killed due to an accident caused by negligence, families may pursue a wrongful death claim. Typically, immediate family members, such as spouses, children, or parents, are eligible to file such claims. Extended family members or the deceased’s estate might also qualify, depending on state laws.

Wrongful death claims can seek various damages, including compensation for funeral expenses, loss of financial support, loss of companionship, and emotional distress. The specifics of damages awarded can vary based on the unique circumstances of each case and applicable laws.

Seeking legal guidance is essential for victims and their families to navigate the complex legal process and pursue rightful compensation.
