Philadelphia, PA (May 7, 2024) – According to local officers, one of the three victims of a hit-and-run accident that happened on Monday night in Philadelphia’s Hunting Park neighborhood remains hospitalized in critical condition. The collision occurred at the B and Venango Street intersection at around 9:10 p.m.
According to investigators, the pedestrians were hit by the driver of a dark-colored minivan with logos on the side when it swerved around a stopped car on B Street. The minivan’s driver fled the area, going south on B Street. Meanwhile, a 56-year-old woman with internal injuries and head trauma was brought to Temple University Hospital in serious condition. Two more patients, a 32-year-old and a 59-year-old, were said to be in stable condition at the hospital. Captain Robert Heinzeroth of the Crash Investigation Division of the Philadelphia Police Department said the PPD is still investigating and looking for witnesses.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery.
Hit-and-Run Accidents in Pennsylvania
In Pennsylvania, pedestrian accidents—including hit-and-runs—have increased over the last several years. Unfortunately, over this period, there has been a roughly 20% rise in pedestrian fatalities, from crosswalks and parking lots to busy downtown areas and other locations.
Furthermore, since there are more pedestrians and more residents across the state year after year, every motorist must take extra care to adhere to traffic laws, be aware of their surroundings, and drive cautiously and attentively. That said, preventing severe injuries or deaths from pedestrian accidents is not always possible.
To make matters worse, insurance companies often use a range of strategies to reject or minimize claims, even when it comes to pedestrian collisions. These adjusters can try to minimize the seriousness of a victim’s injuries or contest the insured driver’s responsibility in another way.
