Mechanicsburg, PA (July 14, 2024) – According to David Thompson, spokesperson for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, three individuals have passed away as a result of a multiple-vehicle collision that took place on Interstate 81 in central Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon.

Per authorities, the triple fatal accident occurred at approximately 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 14. Thompson additionally reported that Interstate 81 southbound was closed at Exit 57 to Route 114 in Mechanicsburg through Exit 52, leading to U.S. Route 11/I-76 in Middlesex. The incident involved a vehicle fire, though fire rescue teams extinguished the blaze. As of 3:00 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police troopers were conducting an investigation, but no further details have been provided.
