Lehigh Co, PA (December 9, 2024) – A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred early Monday morning on Interstate 78 in Upper Saucon Township, Lehigh County, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals. The incident, reported by the Pennsylvania State Police, took place shortly before 5:00 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of I-78, about a mile past Exit 60 for Route 309 South/Quakertown.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, three people were attempting to push a Toyota Sienna out of the right travel lane when the crash occurred. A tractor-trailer collided with the minivan, subsequently striking another tractor-trailer. One of the individuals pushing the minivan was killed, though their identity has not been disclosed. The driver of the truck that hit the minivan, 30-year-old Nicholas Bolotine of East Cocalico Township, PA, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the site of the collision. Ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals while firefighters assisted in extracting the vehicles involved in the crash. Authorities worked swiftly to control the scene, rerouting traffic and ensuring the safety of all responders.
A portion of I-78 eastbound was closed for several hours on Monday morning as authorities conducted an investigation and cleared the wreckage. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.
