Cumberland Co, PA – Fatal Crash on RTE 581 Near Exits 3 and 5

Cumberland County, PA (April 14, 2025) – A tragic crash occurred early on April 14, claiming the life of a construction worker and shutting down a section of Route 581 in Camp Hill Borough. The accident took place at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes, between Exit 3 (Route 11/Carlisle Pike) and Exit 5 (Route 15/Gettysburg/Camp Hill).

According to reports from WGAL and local authorities, a FedEx tractor-trailer drove through an active construction zone and collided with a stationary construction vehicle occupied by two workers. Emergency responders, including firefighters and EMS crews, arrived swiftly at the scene to control traffic and attend to the victims.

Both construction workers were trapped inside their vehicle and had to be extricated by rescue personnel using specialized equipment. They were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Tragically, one of the workers succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released by officials pending family notification.

Authorities from the Pennsylvania State Police and local agencies are actively investigating the circumstances leading up to the collision. The eastbound lanes of RTE 581 remained closed for several hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage and reconstruct the scene.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to the victim’s family, friends, and coworkers during this incredibly difficult time.
