Centre Co, PA (April 8, 2025) – A pedestrian injury crash occurred on April 8 in Spring Township, just outside of Bellefonte. The incident took place at approximately 1:40 p.m. in the 700 block of Willowbank Street, near the Hot Dog House, according to the Spring Township Police Department.
Authorities reported that a 28-year-old man from Bucks County ran into the path of a small dump truck traveling westbound. The exact circumstances leading to the crash are still under investigation. Emergency responders, including Spring Township Fire Department and EMS personnel, were dispatched to the scene and provided immediate assistance.
The pedestrian was stabilized at the scene and airlifted via LifeFlight helicopter, which landed at Lambert Hall on Forge Rd, to UPMC Williamsport. He was listed in critical condition as of Tuesday evening.
Fire crews assisted with securing the crash site and managing traffic, while police closed Willowbank St in the vicinity for roughly two hours during their on-scene investigation. The driver of the dump truck remained at the location and cooperated fully with authorities.
Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian and their family as they navigate this difficult time.
Pedestrian Injury Crashes in Centre County
Pedestrian accidents remain a serious public safety concern in Centre County and throughout Pennsylvania. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), there were over 3,000 pedestrian-related crashes statewide in 2023, resulting in more than 160 fatalities and thousands of injuries. In Centre County specifically, pedestrian accidents have steadily increased in recent years, particularly in areas with growing traffic volumes and limited crosswalk infrastructure. Intersections near busy roads and commercial areas—such as the stretch of Willowbank St where this week’s incident occurred—are common sites for these dangerous encounters between vehicles and pedestrians.
For victims of pedestrian injury crashes, the physical, emotional, and financial toll can be overwhelming. Medical expenses, loss of income, and prolonged rehabilitation often follow such traumatic events. Personal injury law provides a pathway for injured parties to seek compensation when a driver’s negligence or unsafe roadway conditions contribute to the crash.
