Centre County, PA (May 15, 2024) – One person was treated for injuries Tuesday after a five-vehicle crash that snarled rush hour traffic on a busy road near State College, borough police said. One of the vehicles involved was a school bus that had no children aboard, as well as a box truck, police said.
A driver was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center, and two vehicles were towed, police said. At least two lanes of East College Avenue were closed at, about, 8:45 a.m. Tuesday near the exit ramps for U.S. Route 322 in College Township. A driver attempted to turn left at a red light and set off a reaction of small crashes, police said. The road reopened about an hour later. The driver is set to be cited with traffic violations, police said. The Alpha Fire Co. was among the agencies that assisted. However, an investigation is still ongoing in the interim, and no other details were released.
Our thoughts go out to the injured victims and their families. We hope for their full recovery at this time.
Truck Accidents in Pennsylvania
In the United States, there were just under 170,000 truck accidents during the last year alone. Though Pennsylvania didn’t take the top spot, it wasn’t too far behind Florida, Texas, and California, the states with the highest number of collisions.
Pennsylvania ranked fourth nationwide, with between 10,000 and 12,000 truck accidents. Even worse, the total number of fatalities numbered between 250 and 300, with 4,000 to 5,000 injured. Like many other states, truck accidents are a big issue in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania has an extensive network of highways and interstates, which contributes to the state’s high truck traffic. Furthermore, these vehicles’ sheer size and weight often result in disastrous crashes.
