Dauphin Co, PA (January 10, 2025) – An injury multi-vehicle crash occurred on January 9, causing significant traffic delays along PA Route 283 near the Lancaster-Dauphin county line. The incident, reported by the Londonderry Fire Company, took place at approximately 10:00 p.m., shutting down the westbound lanes between the Tollhouse Rd exit and the Vine St exit.
According to the Londonderry Fire Company, a tractor-trailer milk truck veered off the road, crossing over the guide rail and into the nearby woods. The truck’s saddle tanks ruptured, leaking diesel fuel onto the ground. Two passenger cars were also involved, with one car catching fire in the median. Fortunately, all six individuals in the cars were able to exit safely before emergency responders arrived.
The Dauphin County Hazardous Materials Response Team was on the scene to manage the fuel leak, which involved over 250 gallons of fuel and vehicle fluids. Emergency services, including fire and rescue teams, worked swiftly to extinguish the fire and secure the scene. Authorities confirmed that there were injuries, though the exact number and severity were not disclosed. Ambulances transported the injured individuals to nearby hospitals.
The westbound lanes of PA Route 283 remained closed for about four hours as crews cleared the wreckage, contained the hazardous materials, and worked to reopen the highway.
