Bear Creek Twp, PA (December 5, 2024) – A fatal head-on car crash occurred on Sunday on the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-476) in Bear Creek Township. The collision, reported by Pennsylvania State Police, claimed the life of a 65-year-old woman and left two others injured. Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 1:00 p.m., near the Wilkes-Barre Interchange.

According to police, the tragic event unfolded when a car entered the southbound lane from the Wilkes-Barre Interchange but traveled north in the southbound direction. A second car, heading south, could not avoid the first car, leading to a catastrophic head-on collision.

Firefighters and other emergency services were dispatched to the scene to extract the victims from the vehicles. Both drivers were transported by ambulance to Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center with injuries. Sadly, the passenger of the second car, a woman from Scranton, succumbed to her injuries shortly after being rushed to the hospital. Police controlled traffic and secured the scene to prevent further incidents.

The exact circumstances leading to the crash remain under investigation.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim. Our thoughts are also with the injured individuals, and we wish them a full recovery.
