Banks Twp., PA - One Killed in Bicycle Wreck on SR-93

Banks Twp., PA (March 27, 2025) – A collision involving a car and two bicyclists in Banks Township has left one man dead and another cyclist hospitalized.

On March 25 around 5:00 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police were called to the scene of a crash on State Route 93 near Spring Mountain Road. According to authorities, an 87-year-old woman from Weatherly was driving westbound when she struck two bicyclists who were traveling in the same direction.

Troopers say the impact was severe. One cyclist, 30-year-old Jancel Santos-Perez of Beaver Meadows, was hit by the front bumper of the vehicle, thrown onto the hood, and then launched into the windshield before landing approximately 100 feet from the point of impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Carbon County Assistant Coroner. The coroner later confirmed the cause of death as blunt force trauma and ruled it an accident. The second bicyclist, a 39-year-old woman also from Beaver Meadows, was pushed to the side of the roadway. She suffered injuries that were described as non-life-threatening and was transported to Lehigh Valley Hazleton for medical care.

The crash remains under active investigation by the Carbon County Coroner’s Office, State Police Hazleton, and the state police crash reconstruction unit. Authorities have not released further details about whether any charges are being considered.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Jancel Santos-Perez. We also wish a full recovery to the injured cyclist.
